Eric T. Stafne, Ph.D.
Associate Extension and Research Professor at Mississippi State University with responsibilities in grapes and other fruiting crops. From 2009 to 2014, Stafne has served as Project Director for the national eXtension Grape Community of Practice (www.extension.org/grapes), a USDA-NIFA-SCRI funded project, which has more than 100 members from 31 states and Canada.
Dr. Stafne is currently working with grape growers and wineries interested in Pierce’s disease-resistant hybrid wine grape production in southern Mississippi. He also works with the expansive blueberry industry that supplies fruit for wineries in Mississippi and Alabama. From 2005 to 2011, Eric was on the faculty at Oklahoma State University where he was the primary instructor for the annual Oklahoma State University Grape Management Short Course and conducted research on various aspects of vinifera and hybrid grape production. In 2010, Stafne was editor and co-author of the Handbook of Oklahoma Vineyard Establishment and Management which was awarded a publication award by the American Society for Horticultural Science – Southern Region in 2011.
Eric also served as vice-chair of the National Grape and Wine Initiative extension and outreach theme committee and as a member of the board of directors for the American Society of Enology and Viticulture – Eastern Section.
Captain Brent A. Fairchild
Special Agent In-Charge with the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission (ABLE) assigned to the Headquarters in Oklahoma City. He holds Associate and Bachelors Degrees in Criminal Justice as well as a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Management and Administration. In his 27-year career with the State of Oklahoma he has served as a DPS Communications Officer, DPS Capitol Patrolman, ABLE Agent I, II, Senior Agent, Lieutenant, and Captain. He is a certified Advanced Level Peace Officer as well as a certified Defensive Tactics Instructor, Law Enforcement Driver Training Instructor, and Rapid Response to Active Shooter Instructor. He is currently a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Police Mountain Bike Association. Originally from El Reno, he currently resides in Yukon with his wife Janette and children, Reagan and Justin.
Discussion of Oklahoma and EPA regulations dealing with pesticides and pesticide applications, covering new and upcoming regulations. Also discussed will be ODAFF's new online services which will allow applicators and sensitive crop growers to communicate information electronically at your convenience concerning pesticide applications and sensitive crops.
Since 2010, worked for the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, & Forestry (ODAFF). He started his career with ODAFF as the Pesticide Registration Program Administrator; in 2011 acquired the Pesticide Certification, Training, and Licensing Program. Duties include overseeing the certification and training program, licensing program, supervises ODAFF pesticide inspectors, and all special pesticide registrations, such as Section 18's and 24 (C)'s. Also supervises and directs all delegated work under the EPA program, manages the special projects through EPA grants. These special projects include container recycling, endangered species, training for inspectors, and seminars.
William McGlynn, Ph.D.
Horticultural Products Processing Specialist at the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Product Center. Received a B.A. degree from the University of California at Davis in 1979, an M.S. degree in Food Science from the University of Arkansas in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Food Science from the University of Arkansas in 1997. Dr. McGlynn ame to work for the Food & Agricultural Products Center on the Stillwater campus of Oklahoma State University in May 1997 and is a faculty member in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. He is responsible for the extension and research activities of the center relating to value adding processing of horticultural products. His extension responsibilities include serving as a Process Authority, providing commercial food processors and regulatory agencies with formal documentation determining the regulatory status of processed foods as well as the safety and adequacy of specific processing procedures. He also provides technical information and assistance related to food product formulation, enhancement of food safety and/or quality, and thermal process evaluation. He has a variety of research projects underway, including investigating the winemaking potential of grape and fruit crops in Oklahoma, research to address the nutraceutical content of winery waste products, and research to address food safety issues with bagged leafy greens.
Ms. Andrea Graves is a Business Planning and Marketing Specialist at the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center (FAPC) at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Andrea works closely with entrepreneurs in the development of products for the food service industry using the Client Success Path model. Andrea serves as an instructor for multiple industry workshops at FAPC including Food Labeling, Allergens and others. Andrea also reviews food labels for FDA compliance, assists with business plans, marketing strategies, packaging design, social media and coordination of specialty services of the FAPC. Andrea is also specialized in helping lead beginning gourmet food companies to take the next steps for national sales and recognition through participation at events such as the Dallas Gourmet Market in Dallas, Texas and the annual Fancy Food Show in New York, New York. Andrea received her Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University. She is a member of the Research Chef’s Association and the Oklahoma Restaurant Association. In her spare time Andrea enjoys trying out new food products and cooking methods on her husband, Rob, and two dogs.
Michele Norgren, MS
Viticulture & Enology Science & Technology Alliance (VESTA) Program Director Missouri State University
She has served as Director and Principal Investigator of the VESTA National Center for the past 11 years and under her leadership has seen the program grow from a 3 state partnership with an enrollment of 25 students to an ever growing 19 state partnership and participation of over 1700 students from around the world. Ms. Norgren graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in education and a Master of Science degree in Education Administration.
