Wine Chemistry Workshop - IL

Home and commercial wine makers alike are invited to enhance their skills with a two-day workshop through Rend Lake College’s Viticulture and Enology Science and Technology Alliance (VESTA) program. The Wine Chemistry Workshop is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 and end at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 in the RLC Science Building, Room 108.

VESTA Illinois State Coordinator Candice Fitch-Deitz said the workshop is geared toward home and commercial wine makers who are looking to refine their skills. Dr. Barry Gump, Enology Lead Instructor, will be focusing on the analytical testing and chemistry of wine making during the two days.

“This workshop is a great opportunity for wineries to send employees for training or as a refresher for experienced employees as well,” said Gump. “Analysis techniques used during the workshop are vital for the production of high quality wines by seasoned wine makers and novices. We will also adapt the lab analysis techniques to tests that can be completed by home wine makers who do not have access to lab equipment.”

Registration for the workshop will be accepted until Friday, Feb. 7. The event costs $150 per person, which includes instruction, coffee breaks and lunch on Saturday, Feb. 15. Due to a limited number of seats, the workshop is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
