PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS/ACTIVITIES:

 

 Professor of Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, School of Natural Sciences, California State University, Fresno.  Responsible for teaching classes in Analytical Chemistry, directing graduate student thesis research, and participating in University activities, 1967 - present. 

 

Professor of Enology, Department of Viticulture & Enology.  Responsible for teaching classes in wine and sensory analysis.  2000 – present.

 

Professor of Agricultural Education – Santa Rosa Junior College.  Responsible for teaching classes in Wine Components.  Spring 2003 – present.

 

Co-author of  “Wine Analysis and Production”.  Dr. Gump has a long association with the wine industry, conducting research in analytical methodology applied to Enology and Viticulture.  He is a Technical Editor for the Journal of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture, and a professional wine judge.

 

Consultant and Expert Witness in case involving impact of wine closure on quality of wine – oxidation.  Currently in discovery, January 2001 -- present

 

Consultant and Expert Witness in case involving quality of "off-shore" grape juice concentrate.  Settled out of court, Los Angeles, CA, September, 1994

 

Organizer of Workshop: “Regulating The Laboratory - The Chemical Hygiene Plan”.  Sponsored by the Technical Projects Committee of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture, June 22, 1993, Sacramento, CA

 

Co-organizer of Symposium: “Modern Technology in Production of Wines, Beers and Distillates” Sponsored by the Industrial and Engineering Division of the American Chemical Society, April 5 - 10, 1992, San Francisco, CA

 

Consultant and Expert Witness in case involving wine containing carbon disulfide contaminated sulfur dioxide. Went to trial in state of New York, 1990.
